AFIWEB® ULTRASEN-TRAIL

ULTRASEN® in-service system for ultrasound automatic inspection of Train Wheels.

AFIWEB® has been developed in collaboration with RENFE and ALSTOM. It provides a reliable, foolproof, fully automated method for the systematic detection of cracks in train wheels without taking them apart from the train. A set of ultrasonic transducers is used to inspect each wheel, using partial immersion coupling between the probes and the wheel running profile. Inspection time is about 1 hour per train (16 wheels).  AFIWEB® includes inspection of the rim and, if applicable, of the area surrounding the brake mounting drill-holes within the web of the wheel.

At this time it is the only wheel inspection system approved by RENFE, Spain´s national railway operator. Production-line system also available, including further wheel components inspection.

The system provides software tools including storage and management of databases for wheels inspected/reference wheels as well as connectivity to the maintenance workshop computer network.

Peripherals and add-ons are offered in option for fully automated inspection.
