ULTRASEN-AXLE^®

ULTRASEN^® System for ultrasound automatic inspection of both Solid and Hollow Train Axles.

ULTRASEN^®-AXLE in-service ultrasound systems have been developed in close co-operation with RENFE Integria, leading to the successful translation of all requirements established for manual inspection into a fully automated inspection system which largely exceeds all performance characteristics of manual inspection procedures. To do so, both systems have been implemented within the scope of normal maintenance operations, not limited to major overhaul operations, thereby precluding disassembly of bogies or wheel sets, with axle heads being accessed by simply removing the lid of the journal box, also known as the grease box.

Echoes originating from cracks are told apart automatically from those coming from axle-specific geometric features so the system are implemented to filter out known positive signals coming from fixed, predetermined faults along the axle, thus reducing dramatically the inspection time and making it operator skill independent.

Production-line system also available.

The system provides software tools including storage and management of databases for axles inspected/reference axles as well as connectivity to the maintenance workshop computer network.
