In-line ultrasound system for automatic inspection of Heavy Steel Plates.

Modern quality assessment in rolled steel plates requires an inspection system capable of reliable detection of flaws introduced during the rolling process, while keeping processing times short enough to avoid any impact on overall factory production flow. ULTRASEN^®-PLATE provides real-time inspection of such heavy plates (up to 3,5 m width, 36 m length, 6 to 60 mm thickness), thereby being automatically evaluated upon user-selected quality standards.

To do so, 192 ultrasound transducers are used, 16 of them being assembled in servo-controlled arms, that keep these transducers aligned with the plate edges.

The system provide software tools including storage and management of databases for parts inspected and quality standards as well as connectivity to factory computer network.
